I love food, who does not. However, I am changing my food habits. I decided to start eating smarter and healthier for great reasons. Health is my number one reason. I decided that I wanted to learn vegan and Raw recipes so here I begin.

I love this book. I have tried over 20 recipes and enjoyed most of them including family members. If I was not satisfied with the taste either the hubby or guest was so it was a win, win for me
I left myself open to all kinds of 'clean' foods. Those i regularly eat and those i don't like as well as trying new foods.
The recipes I enjoyed were:
Spicy Mustard Greens
Tofu Curry with Mustard Greens
Muscovado-Roasted Plaintains
Twice Baked Sweet potatoes with Winter Salsa
Collards and Cabbage with Lots of Garlic
Glazed Carrot Salad
Smashed Potatoes, Peas and Corn with Chile-Garlic Oil
These are definitely part of my staple foods to cook.

There was not any that i just didnt like to the point of not wanting to try because if i didnt like it my hubby did.
I liked the Sweet Plantain and fresh Corn Cakes also the Skillet Cornbread with Pecan Dukkah

I enjoyed the selection of recipes that is included, which covered cold drinks, preserves and porridge sections. I really liked the conversion chart located in the back also. The menu suggestions were on point and the TIPS were a delight. I completely loved the book. You will Definitely love the book. This books sits on my shelf as a DARN GREAT READ with a 5 star review rating.
Cassandra Whitmore is facing yet another Valentine’s Day alone. Her love life is as dry as the Sharpie pen she uses to mark an even more dreadful day on her calendar—her upcoming 30th birthday. Driven by the maddening ticking of her biological clock, Cassandra is determined to meet, fall in love with, and marry “The One” within nine months. When Cassandra accompanies her cousin to a night club, her Type-A quest to meet a man is quickly rewarded by a stranger’s velvety, baritone voice asking if he might occupy the seat next to her. He’s Nicolas Harte, whose good looks leave Cassandra speechless, but not for long. After mustering enough courage to strike up a conversation, she learns Nicolas is everything she wants in a man—smart, successful, and available. There’s only one catch: He’s “GU” (geographically undesirable). Nonetheless, Cassandra falls in love with Nicolas and makes the uncharacteristic decision to move from Los Angeles to New York to be with him. But Cassandra gets a rude awakening when she discovers there’s something rotten in the Big Apple.

My Review: Struggles of the Women Folk is a Novella. (under 150 pages) The story setting is in Virginia and the year is 1940.

One of the best part of the novel I enjoyed was the rhetorical dialect the author chose to use which was a perfect tone for that era. Some readers might view the novel as a Coming of Age read.
The main character and narrator of the story, is teenager Georgie. She is an independent young lady whose heart desires to achieve a better life for herself. The adversities and challenges this young girl endured was woven into a compelling tale that also included secondary characters Sissy, Georgie's mother and Aunt Adele. The complex themes of their struggles I found weaken by the voice of Georgie. I felt their pain but not their struggle. The ending was a bit abrupt but glad HOW it ended. This is the first novel I read from this author and It was a good read. Characters were believable, the author stayed within the era, some character development among the characters, and readers will experience varied emotions. All this makes for a satisfying read.
My reading pace was moderate and non stop. This novel held my attention from beginning to end. The author penned a well written historical fiction of secrets, betrayal, hardship and deceit. Definitely worth reading.
I give the book cover a 4/5 rating. Much improved from the last cover. I love the title of the book, "Struggles of the Women Folk" but i don't think the struggles were flushed for each character to match the title. 3.5 / 5 rating. This novels sits on my shelf as a DARN GREAT READ with a 4/5 review rating.
However, reading the classic today brings to light stereotypes and plot issues. But rather than write off this classic, author Carl Waters re-imagines and remixes the story into a four-book series that builds from the world and characters Stowe created and expands on the good she intended.
Do events from your past continue to play over and over in your mind? Do you feel like your relationship with God is not where it should be? Are you looking for a deeper worship experience? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I have some good news for you. The answer may seem far away, but it's actually much closer than you think.

Altars of the Heart will take you on a journey to rediscover who you are and give you authentic tools to help you connect back to walking hand-in-hand with God through deeper worship.

The knowledge and insight that you will gain from reading this book will take you to a life of newfound liberation from insecurities, fear, doubt, shame, and un-forgiveness.
You will be encouraged to do an internal "heart" examination, to re-evaluate how you interact with others, make choices and worship the Lord.

Review: A spiritually self -examination book for readers who wish to honestly examine their WORSHIP with God. Respectfully, I enjoyed this book.
The author explains 'Altars' as a place within the heart that stores hidden pains and unclean emotions that hinders us from complete worship with God.
The authors provides biblical stories of 'altars' being used in the bible and there I fell short of making the connection the author was referring to in that chapter for it appears to be a thin line between the altars and the Offering. Chapter 3, the Heart, the author explains the physical and spiritual heart. The most enjoyable read of this book is Chapter 9. The Mind and Heart Connection. Its Powerful!!! The author does a great job in braking down the perception of the heart and mind and which perceives and which conceives.

This self -examination book will help readers to identify some 'unholy altars ' inhabiting within our hearts If one is experiencing wavering faith then search your heart with honesty. Seek deep so you may reveal those unholy altars of negative influences. Until they are identified, confronted and a process of prayer and studying God's word is done one can not experience True Worship with Christ, one lacks understanding God's power in our lives. This book is an excellent read. The book cover is a 3/5 rating, the book title and its connection to the theme is a 4/5 and this book sits on my Deep In my Soul reading shelf with an 4.5 / 5 review rating
In the midst of a developing relationship Mason’s past begins to surface causing him to push Sydney away in fear of her finding out a secret he’d kept hidden for most of his adult life. In the wake of a tragic accident she finds that what she thought she knew was only the beginning, and what happens from there leaves them both searching for answers to a single question in what turns out to be a startling outcome, Where We Left Off.
The author's descriptive writing style, unique or intricately defined characters and a central conflict that is well written into the depths of the story line left me in AWE.
Its not a plot that is staring you right in your face and neither is the negative effect a person may encounter when someone experience trauma in their life without a healing process.
In the beginning the author allows readers to marinate on the voice of the main character, Mason. His outlook about pastors, God and the church is very cold-hearted. He's a bachelor and seeks women that are not looking for commitment nor marriage.
Sydney - The woman that captures Mason heart, but she is not offering him what Mason usually receives from women he encounters.
Jackson - Mason's brother and confidant.
Erika - Exactly what Mason seek in a woman. Beauty and sexual satisfaction without commitment of any kind.
The characters are a good blend. The author did a great job with presenting the readers with a look into the heads of the secondary characters and introducing minor characters that wasn't muddled into the story line, producing a good balance.
In the story there is hope, strength, courage, forgiveness, redemption and true love. The author delivers a passionate woven romance that also spins a few twist. My reading pace was moderate as I savored each page while analyzing the story line.. It definitely held my interest. A few times I wanted to jump down a few line only because I became anxious for the outcome. I dearly enjoyed this novel. Interesting book cover design. The ending was satisfying. The book title and story line match up is a 5/5 and this book sits on my reading shelf as DEEP IN MY Soul novel with a 4.5/5 review rating. (note: editing errors)
My Review: Hitting the Right Note by Author Rhonda Bowen takes place in Toronto, Canada. The story is told from a 3rd person point of view. The main character, Judith Isaacs aka jj was an easy going character who is the life support of her family. As she and her sisters become reacquainted with their sister in law, j.j. becomes the beacon that demonstrates forgiveness.
My favorite character is minor character Cymmone, one time known singer and the character that provides the element of surprise / twist i in the story. She is not through -out the novel but her character at one time shared the central conflict of the protagonist.J.J. My least favorite character was Sabrina and I wanted J.J. to slug her instead of shunning her just once before the novel ended. Round character, Deacon Hill, the renowned singer and every woman's dream is another unforgettable character. I liked the character development the author penned for him. All characters are believable and their roles fit well in the story.
When Love, Career and Faith does not seem to intertwine, it can cause emotional stress, and J.J. emotions was eroding within her heart. I liked the plot and the story ending was satisfying. I especially liked how the author showed J.J. being torn between her dreams of being a Singer and her love for God.
My reading pace was moderate through out the novel. I did find myself sliding down a few lines after chapter 32 but the story held my attention. The book title and plot: 5/5 Book cover to plot or title: 3/5. Hitting the Right Notes , a Christian novel, is a Darn Good Read and sits on my shelf with a 3.5 / 5 review rating. I'm looking forward to reading author, Rhonda Bowen other novels.
There have been five black ballerinas that have made a noticeable mark in the world of ballet. Five that have fought to have the world see their talent rather than the color of their skin. Each has graced the stage as soloist and/or principal dancer. Precious Blue Johnson is set to become one of them. Precious Blue Johnson, young, country and naive, from Lutts County, Georgia, is traveling to the energizing city of New York to search for her birth father and perhaps make history by becoming the first black ballerina. Her simple mocha skin and thick lips will put her in the center of a movement, expose secrets and unlock the past as she steps onto the stage as the Blue Butterfly. She will be guided by the vivacious and wise Ms. Ann and fall in love with the alluring Ray Silvers. Ray brings the whole package. Enchanting eyes, a bright future as a doctor, and a willingness to love completely. To Precious, he is perfect. Except Ray’s package includes his deadly past. Will their love survive the one person who could end it all—his drug-addicted mother?
Thomas is a dynamic story-teller with five engaging and dramatic novels to her credit. Her books have been seen on national television stations and featured in print magazines and newspapers. She has also been a guest on many broadcast and online radio stations. Her titles, My Father’s Colors and Strings of Color both received the USA Best Book Finalist Award. What makes her books unique? Mrs. Thomas is a pioneer for clean fiction for contemporary female readers. She refuses to lace her work with explicit sexual themes or profanity. Ms. Thomas’ books are rich with ever-intriguing themes of race, family strife, love, courage, friendship and forgiveness. And yet her tales, which seem to pre-stage current tabloid headlines, are spelled out in ways that suit the delicate moral tastes of both the Christian Fiction reader and the Clean Fiction book reader. Ms. Thomas resides in a suburb of Georgia with her husband, family and dear friends.
Leah falls fast and hard, losing all sense of reasoning. Love can do that to a gal, especially when the guy is as smooth as Nathan Moore. Author, Janice Ross pins a novella that reminds me to not leap with the deceitful emotions of the heart but follow the mind.
Narrated by the teenage girl who lived it, Closet Full of Coke tells the true story of how a New York suburban fifteen-year-old girl's savvy and wit helps turn the small-time drug business of Armando, a Colombian drug dealer, into a multi-million-dollar cocaine operation that puts them on the DEA's Wanted List.
Atticus Wynn and Rosemary Sanchez, newly engaged private investigators, have seen the dark and violent side of life. Nothing, though, has prepared them for an explosive murder investigation that threatens to tear their relationship apart as they struggle to solve a case that could leave them in prison or dead.
Atticus’s manipulative ex-girlfriend bursts back into their lives wielding a secret about Rosemary’s family that she exploits to force the couple into investigating the execution-style slaying of her lover. About the Author:

Carlyle Clark was raised in Poway, a city just north of San Diego, but is now a proud Chicagolander working in the field of Corporate Security and writing crime and fantasy fiction. He has flailed ineffectually at performing the writer's requisite myriad of random jobs: pizza deliverer, curb address painter, sweatshop laborer, day laborer, night laborer, security guard, campus police, Gallup pollster, medical courier, vehicle procurer, and signature-for-petitions-getter.

He is a married man with two cats and a dog. He is also a martial arts enthusiast and a CrossFit endurer who enjoys fishing, sports, movies, TV series with continuing storylines, and of course, reading. Most inconsequentially, he holds the unrecognized distinction of being one of the few people in the world who have been paid to watch concrete dry in the dark. Tragically, that is a true statement.

Been there. Done that.

Feisty and independent, Anya Davies lives by her own rules. The one thing she’s hell-bent on avoiding is a conventional relationship. Nor is she interested in romance, thanks to her abusive ex who refuses to stay in the past. The second complication in her life is a secret that condemns her to constant guilt and a solitary life. A series of near misses and escalating threats are a third and worrying factor. Only a special man would understand or live with Anya’s challenges and demands.

Casual sex...so not having that.

Enter Christophe Mondesir. Two years ago, Anya dumped him without explanation. An accidental meeting shoots Anya back on Christophe’s radar. He refuses to be denied and plans to breach the fortress Anya has built around her heart—if she’ll commit to more than a casual liaison. He’s also determined to find out what she’s hiding. That’s if the stalker who’s after Anya doesn’t end her life first.
The unknown word he’d spoken came to mind and she twisted away from him. “I’m not so sure I should let you touch me, ’specially since I don’t know what you said earlier. What was that anyhow?”

“I said you should stop talking like a slut.”

She mashed his toes with her foot. “How dare you talk to me like that?”

“Ouch! If you insist on treating sex as if it is some sort of pill—”

“If you were sensitive to my needs, I wouldn’t have to resort to asking for sex.”

He narrowed his eyes. “You know what? I’m going to give you what you want.”

That said, Christophe pressed his lips to hers, forcing her mouth open. She fought him, but this time he ignored her attempts to escape.

The intensity of his kiss frightened her. His grip on her arms was too tight and she felt suffocated by his strength. “No, Christophe, I—”

His hand glided under her shirt and the words lodged in her throat. She cast aside her objections, swept away by the fire his touch lit on her insides.

They landed on her bed, struggling to free themselves of their clothing. Minutes later, Christophe reduced her to an orgasmic shudder.

Then they started over.

When they were satisfied, she panted against his chest.

Christophe eased away from her and rolled onto his back to stare into a corner of the room.

Now what was wrong with him? She raised herself up on her elbow. “What’s bugging you now?”

It took him a while to look her in the eyes. “D’you realize I just raped you?”

She almost giggled. “Well, it was the best rape I ever had.”

He sighed. “I’m serious. You said no, and I didn’t listen.”

He murmured something she didn’t hear and rolled onto his side, away from her.

Anya stared at a mole on his shoulder, unable to believe what she was seeing and hearing. Was he serious? Wasn’t she supposed to be the basket case?

She scratched at the skin around the cast. It was itching like hell lately.

Christophe got up and went into the bathroom. The toilet flushed and she waited for him to come back to bed. Instead, he got a pair of jeans from the cupboard and pulled them on, along with a tee-shirt.

Anya gaped at him. “Where the hell d’you think you’re going?”

“Home. I need to think.”

“What d’you need to think about, Christophe?”

“Things.”

She yanked her shirt on and stood in front of him. “Every time I get mad and tell you to leave, you refuse to go. Now, we don’t even have a serious quarrel and you’re running away. What’s wrong with you?”

He slipped both hands in his pockets and wouldn’t look at her. “I have to go.”

Using her hand, she tipped his head so she could see his eyes.

He was in pain.

She didn’t understand what the problem was, but something had gone terribly wrong. She grabbed his arms and spoke softly to him. “Don’t walk out on me now. I don’t know what’s going on with you, or what you think you did, but I need you.”

“I’m sorry, Anya.” He stepped out of her grasp and walked away.

She sank on the bed, rubbing the frown line on her forehead. Would he be all right? Her heart rate went up and she pressed a hand to her chest. Christophe had left, but she needed to check whether he’d locked up.

The lock was engaged and she was alone in the house. She leaned against the front door, feeling as if she’d bought a bus ticket and the driver had dropped her off miles away from her destination.

Her eyes smarted, but she would not cry. While she was sure Christophe’s withdrawal was directly related to her, she sensed there were other factors at play.

If he didn’t want to talk, how could she get to the root of what was eating him?

PAMELA SAMUELS YOUNG

1. What inspired you to write your first novel?

I love reading mysteries, particularly those that involve fascinating legal cases. It

bothered me, however, that the lawyers in the legal thrillers I read were never women or

African-Americans. So I decided to fill that void.

I knew pretty early in life that I wanted to be a writer, having worked on my school

newspaper in junior high, high school and college. When I decided to major in

journalism at the University of Southern California, I didn’t give much thought to

creative writing, however. At the age of 18, I didn’t have the guts to even consider a

career as a novelist. The writers I enjoyed reading – Maya Angelou, James Baldwin,

Richard Wright, Toni Morrison, Joan Didion – were incredibly talented literary writers. I

knew I didn’t have that kind of poetic writing talent. So I pursued a career in journalism.

I guess it took all these years for me to gather the confidence to give creative writing a

try.

2. Your novels have been described as “John Grisham with a sister’s twist.” How do

you feel about that label?

I’m thrilled. He’s one of my favorite authors. Any comparison is absolutely welcomed.

It’s my goal to be recognized as a writer of entertaining legal thrillers.

3. What writers inspired you to write?

I enjoy reading both commercial and literary fiction and some of my favorite authors
include Richard Wright, James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison and Joan Didion.
Other writers I enjoy are Walter Mosley, Valerie Wilson Wesley, Tami Hoag, Michael
Connelly, James Patterson, Terry McMillan, John Grisham, Bob Woodward and Joseph
Finder. I recently discovered Joshilyn Jackson. I think she’s an incredibly talented and
entertaining writer.

But if there’s one book that impacted me more than any other, it would have to be Claude
Brown’s Manchild in the Promised Land. I can still remember stumbling across a copy
of the book at my aunt’s house when I was about twelve. It was the first book I
remember reading that had African-American characters and I was thrilled to be reading
about people who looked like me. It was also a very gritty and graphic coming of age
story. I promptly “borrowed” the book without asking for permission for fear that my
aunt would think I was too young to be reading such a sexually graphic book. After that,
I developed an insatiable appetite for African-American fiction.

4. Where do you find story ideas?

I run across great stories ideas all the time. I kept hearing about child sex trafficking and

it really disturbed me. And when I started researching it, I was stunned at what I learned,

which is why I was so compelled to write Anybody’s Daughter. The employment cases

I’ve handled over the years have involved wonderful characters and intriguing facts that

have also provided the seeds for great legal thrillers. I’m constantly jotting down things

that my friends say and tearing news stories out of newspapers and magazines. I find

stories everywhere. I just wish there were enough hours in the day to turn them all into

Described by one reviewer as “John Grisham with a sister’s twist,” Pamela is an award-winning author of six novels.

Pamela has always abided by the philosophy that you create the change you want to see. Fed up with never seeing women or people of color depicted as savvy, hot shot attorneys in the legal thrillers she read, the Compton native decided to create her own characters. Despite the demands of a busy legal career, Pamela accomplished her ambitious goal by getting up at four in the morning to write before work, dedicating her weekends to writing and even spending her vacation time glued to her laptop for ten or more hours a day. In the process, she discovered her passion.

Her debut novel, Every Reasonable Doubt (2006), won the Black Expressions Book Club’s Fiction Writing Contest, received an honorable mention in the SEAK Legal Fiction Writing Competition and was a finalist for USA Book News’ Best Books of 2006 awards in the mystery, suspense and thriller category. Her second novel, In Firm Pursuit (2007), was honored by Romantic Times magazine as a finalist for Best African-American Novel of 2007. Murder on the Down Low (2008), Pamela’s third release, was an “Editor’s Pick” by Black Expressions magazine and a finalist for the 2009 African-American Literary Awards in the fiction category. The Black Caucus of the American Library Association honored Pamela’s fourth novel, Buying Time (2009), with its 2010 Fiction Award, calling the book “a captivating, suspenseful thriller.” Attorney-Client Privilege (2012) was Pamela’s fifth legal thriller, followed by Anybody’s Daughter (2013), which examines the shocking world of child sex trafficking.

The prolific writer has also penned the short stories Easy Money, featured in the anthology Scoundrels: Tales of Greed, Murder and Financial Crimes (2012) and Setup, selected for the Sisters in Crime anthology, LAndmarked for Murder (2006).

A former journalist, Pamela began her broadcasting career with WXYZ-TV in Detroit and later worked as a news writer and associate producer for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. Burned out by the news business, Pamela took a big and scary step a few months before her 30th birthday and entered law school—a long-held dream. Pamela currently moonlights as a mystery writer while working full-time as Managing Counsel for Labor and Employment Law for a major corporation in Southern California, specializing in employment law and social media law. Prior to that, she served as Employment Law Counsel for Raytheon Company and spent several years as an associate with the law firm of O’Melveny & Myers, LLP, in Los Angeles.

She formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles chapter of Mystery Writers of America and is a diehard member of Sisters in Crime-L.A., an organization dedicated to the advancement of women mystery writers. Failing to uncover such documents, he stumbled across a secret memo. This document revealed that FDR was aware of his deteriorating physical condition and knew how it would impact the importance of Harry S. Truman’s 1944 nomination for vice presidency.

Goldsmith contends that the memo was directly tied to the political intrigue involving FDR’s last year of life. The Health and Death of Franklin D. Roosevelt also contains a host of new information regarding FDR and gives further evidence that he was well aware of the impending attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
The stories surrounding this coal mining community are about family, neighbors and friends. ClaraBy loves her Daddy. The drama of this book will have you laughing and crying, as she grows into womanhood along this journey.

She is struck with sorrow at the loss of her best friend, and worries about her father and brothers when tragedy struck. Also sees her father growing weary over the years as his health deteriorates. Her sister is a fast “breeder”, who seems to be caught by the “BIG BIRD” every year or so with cute little gremlins. There are racial issues that took place in the early 1950’s and 60’s during the period of integration. ClaraBy begins to grow into a lovely young lady who is trying hard not to let her hormones get the best of her. This book is the beginning of her life and she has a lot of living to do. “HELLO WORLD!!” HERE COMES CLARABY ROSE!! (book 2).
