Be Not Afraid by K.R. Morrison Blog Tour

My summary and Review: The protagonist, Lydia Bronson is a middle-aged woman, married with two children in college.  Most important she is a devout Christian. One day while at work she gets a very erring feeling about something or someone and decides to go home early.
She is brutally attacked and abducted by a sadistic vampire.  Lydia is being held in a trapped dark rat-infested basement where the vampire demon feeds from her regularly. As much as she tries to warn off the vampire attacks she becomes worn out. Her faith is strongly tested like never before.

Description: Be Not AfraidLydia is transformed into the very demon the vampire becomes. However, she weakly continues to center her mind upon her faith to sustain her.  God has not forsaken her and  Lydia witnesses firsthand the crucifixion of Jesus which provides her the strength and understanding of her suffering and demonic attack.  Lydia is  literally saved by angels and  becomes one of God's chosen messengers.

This horror Christian novel read more like a dark fantasy supernatural vampire book. I'm not a vampire genre reader so I can't elaborate on the elements of the vampire but I can say in the novel the author did a great job in depicting him as a demon.

I enjoyed the characters, I felt their emotions. I definitely was able to feel the protagonist tribulations during the dark days in that basement being tormented by the vampire. (ooooohh) My reading pace was slow to average, the plot was Good. The author's character development of the main characters was indeed interesting and what kept my interest.
If the author intention for this book is to  provide an entertaining read with a spiritual or faith based presence then I think her intentions was accomplished, however, the use of the vampire as the metaphor of evil left me somewhat disappointed but that is personal because I just don't believe in vampires.
The book cover definitely conveys the story line. It says to me: horror, thriller, evil, bad.
The theme: I gathered is Christians faith will be under severe attack by Satan angels and these attacks will go beyond your imagination. Are your prepared?
This is the first book I've read by author K.R. Morrison and I am willing to read other novels by the author.
This novel sits on my book shelf as a Pretty Darn Good Read.

Book Cover Summary:  War is imminent. Evil has overtaken the world, although the world does not know it. God must intervene on the behalf of those who love Him, and a war is brewing that will decide supremacy.

God’s plan unfolds, and His subjects must retain their faith in the midst of every evil the Father of Lies can throw at them. Lydia, because of her strong faith, is particularly seized upon by Vlad, a demonic vampire. He brings her to the brink of despair, unknowingly causing her to cling even harder to her Lord and Savior. When she is miraculously saved, Vlad finds and then harasses her friends and family, unaware of the angels and saints who are on the brink of attack against him and his minions.

The faithful are tested to the ends of their abilities. Will they be able to stand fast against the power of Death, remembering that God is with them? Or will the Father of Lies rise triumphant?

Author: K.R. Morrison

What was the hardest part of writing your book?
That would have to be the very nature of the story itself. In truth, I do not read books in the horror genre. I once read a Stephen King/Peter Straub corroboration, and I swore off those types of books altogether.
There are lines and scenes in my book where I really squirmed and had to look away while my pen wrote what had to be written. I couldn’t believe what was being put to paper.
To help you understand this, I need to tell you that this book was spawned by a nightmare I had one April night a couple of years ago. I was being attacked by a vampire — and all of my senses were engaged. I could feel the blood being pulled out of my veins. Even now I am having a hard time writing this — and ever since that dream, I have been terrified of the mere idea of vampires.
The strangest thing about the nightmare was that, when I awoke, instead of forgetting it, the thing kept cycling around and around in my head, getting bigger and more detailed, until I finally had to write it down. It was getting so that it was a backstory in my mind the entire day. And when I started writing it, the part I wrote down left my mind. But the terror bits never did become comfortable. Even now, I hesitate to read my own book.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish the book?
Be Not Afraid was started in late April/early May of 2010, and I finished it that September or so. Maybe August. I don’t really remember. Because of the spiritual/theological themes throughout, I wanted to pass it by my ex-pastor and the current pastor at my church. Both gave it a green light, and so I started looking for someone to put it in binding.

How did you come up with the title?
It is the title of one of my favorite hymns, written by Robert J. Dufford, SJ. I especially refer to a verse in the book at the beginning: “If you stand before the power of Hell, and Death is at your side, know that I am with you through it all.” It is what came to me as I wrote the book.

This novel sounds interesting but I'm too not for a vampire read. However I think I understand where the author is going with this so i might be inclined to read it.
