My Summary: Listening to Africa, written by Diana M. Raab is a collection of poems about her surroundings and personal experience of Africa while visiting the country with family and friends.
This poignant collection of Africa's beauty, the distress, and the dignity of the people and even the animals are clearly defined as the poet passionately transform her visual of this country into words that describes joy, laughter, sadness, beauty, fear and wonder.
Mr Review: This collection of poetry is categorizes in four sections: Early thoughts, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Each category I read I found poems that I labeled my favorite for those were deepest felt.
The poet, Diane Raad, intertwine her daily observations on the cultural of Africa and her personal life experiences that captivates a wonderful collection of poetic prose. (prose of poetry)
Readers will enjoy the poet's inclusion of even the smallest wonder or experience of the safari through different countries of Africa. Her observation of both America and Africa lives definitely reminds or open your mind to thoughts of privilege and thanksgiving regardless of your current status /situation.
The book cover is definitely a Great One for it definitely matches her title/theme.

I look forward to sharing some of the poetry from this book with other readers in my Poetry challenge. As we post a poem monthly I've already selected a few. If you know of poetry enthusiasts, I encourage you to provide them with a copy of this book. This book sits on my bookshelf as a Darn Good Read!!
A few of my favorite Poems from the book are: 48 hour Travel, Digestive Paranoia,
The Scent of Death, Their Flu,, Departure Meeting and Trip Summary.
This poem touched deep in my soul:
The Wonder
Today
we saunter to one of the seven
Natural Wonders-
Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe,
where food, water and clothes
are the money the natives speak,
where only twenty percent work,
and eight million each day go to bed hungry
as others rest in the neighbor's trenches.
Sadness drips from unborn eyes
in this country of many such resources
laden with apathetic leaders.
Whilst the other worldly wonders-
Great Barrier Reef
Harbour of Rio de Janeiro
Mount Everest
northern Lights
and Paricutin Volcano
move peacefully into their next daylight
